This Valentine’s Day, more than 140 couples are set to tie the knot at the Abu Dhabi Civil Family Court, marking a significant moment for modern families in the UAE.

I was pleased to comment for The National on this exciting development. Civil marriage provides couples (particularly expatriates) with a clear, accessible legal framework to formalise their union, while reflecting the UAE’s commitment to supporting diverse families.

For couples, choosing to marry at the Civil Court is more than a legal step; it’s an opportunity to start their life together with clarity, mutual understanding, and intentionality. It also signals growing confidence in the UAE’s legal system and its focus on family empowerment.

Valentine’s Day may be associated with romance, but for these couples, it’s also a day to begin their partnership on a strong foundation, supported by transparency and legal certainty.
